FAQs
There are certain questions I’m sure you’re going to want to ask. So here’s our attempt to premptively answer them.
“Do I have to?”
Participation is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged. Bribes in the form of really cool prizes await those who participate.
“How much time am I going to have to spend on this?”
Since participation is not mandatory, none. However, if you do choose to participate, we recommend allotting about two hours per thing. Remember, “The very first step in learning is simply exposure.” You need to give yourself enough time to browse through each Thing and spend time using it. (You are not wasting time doing this, you are learning!) Plus, you’ll need time to write your Blog post. Some things won’t take that much time, others may take more. But two hours is a pretty good average.
“What should I write about?”
Here are some possible ideas: We’re particuarly interested in hearing abour your evaluation of the resources as tools for use and how you think our customers use the resource – and what they expect from us in terms of assistance. You can also tell us your initial reactions to the Thing, how difficult or easy you thought it was, applications to our library, how much you might use it in your personal and/or professional life, how much fun it was, whether you liked or disliked it, suggestions of similar tools or websites.
Don’t forget your early writing lessons: who, what, why, when, where, and how. The possibilities are endless!
“How much do I have to write in my blog?”
It is necessary to post to your blog about your experiences for each of the 23 Things.
While there is no minimum (or maximum) length, you do need to demonstrate that you have played with each technology. This is the time for you to think through how the Thing might be useful to librarianship in general and the Frisco Public Library in particular. Or, this is the place to make an insightful and reasoned arguement against the use of a Thing–based on your experience using it. The quality of your thoughts counts more than the quantity.
Short or cursory posts will not be counted towards completion of the program. Some Things also require you to complete other tasks, such as posting an image.
“Who decides what is a sufficient post?”
Adam and Elizabeth are the administrators for this program. (They gladly accept bribes. Unfortunately, only those which fall within the city’s policy on gifts.)
However, their decisions can be appealed to Shelley Holley. (We don’t know if she accepts bribes.) Her decisions are final.
